A Tour of the Universe Starring Earth & You is a genre-bending documentary that travels from the Big Bang to the human body, combining cosmology, evolutionary history, comedy, narrative, mythology, philosophy, music and experimental imagery to ask what it means to be alive in a 14-billion-year-old universe.

Along the way, Al, Beryl and a cast of eccentric characters confront the implications of deep time, deep space and the absurdity of being alive.

Part documentary, part narrative comedy and part philosophical fever dream, the film asks whether discovering our cosmic insignificance should make us despair—or set us free.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

A hybrid documentary that uses science, comedy, narrative and experimental cinema to confront the absurdity and wonder of existence. A Tour of the Universe originates with my interest in science. My mother was a biologist, my father a physicist, and my step-father a geneticist. I have always been intimidated by science because it feels remote, incomprehensible. With time I’ve come to love it and to learn that science cannot answer all of our questions about the universe or ourselves. I would like to take you on the tour I took as I was researching and making this film; from the Big Bang to the present, a journey from “pure” science to the stirrings of the human soul and the questions we pose ourselves as sentient beings living on Earth.
